BUSES AND DRIVERS
The Transport Service has 2 bus networks, one for the Uccle site and the other for the Berkendael site.
Every day, 55 buses arrive in Uccle and 58 leave to take children home and to the Garderies. For Berkendael, 22 buses arrive at the school in the morning and 24 leave in the afternoon.
The vehicles are neither the property of the APEEE Services nor of the school, and the drivers are not directly hired by the APEEE Services. The Transport Service works with 15 external companies which provide vehicle(s) + driver(s) to ensure the daily transport of the pupils.
The Transport Service negotiates each year its contracts with the different companies, which must follow a set of specifications imposed by the Service. Moreover, the Service, under the impulse of the Management Committee and with the agreement of the Board of the APEEE Services, has started since 2020 a transition towards a zero emission school transport service. What are the steps?
EEB1 was the first school in Brussels to use an electric school bus
The ambitious goal is to reach 100% by 2025 by gradually increasing the number of buses in service.
2020-2021 : 2/78 = 2,5%
2021-2022 : 9/79 = 11,4%
2022-2023: 15/79 = 19% (10 buses in September 2022 and 5 during the year)
2023-2024: 55/82 = 67% (forecast in 21-22)
2024-2025: 82/82 = 100% (forecast in 21-22)
These forecasts will obviously have to take into account the global geopolitical context and its impact on the development of the zero emission passenger vehicle market. They will have to be revised if necessary, but the intention and commitment of the Service, the Committee and the APEEE Services as a whole remain strong.
